What to consider when buying a puppy.

A few pointers to think about when purchasing a puppy

Owning a dog can be one of the most rewarding things that you do in life. A dog gives endless amounts of love and happiness to owners. However there are several things to consider before purchasing a dog.

The questions below should be considered before buying a puppy.

What breed is best for us?

The best starting point is to do a little bit of homework about the breeds which you are interested in. The questions which you should be asking are:

How big do you want your fully grown dog to be?
How much exercise do you want to give to your dog – even in rain, hail, snow and sunshine?
Do you want a pure bred dog – one that you know the breed traits?
What will the cute puppy grow up to look like? Most breeds will not keep the cute puppy look as they grow and mature.
Are there any allergies in the family to animals ie) Asthma or Eczema. The answer to this question will occasionally lead your search down another path as it may be better to consider purchasing a non-moulting breed.

It’s worth remembering at this point that a puppy is for life, not just until it grows too big for your household or is no longer the cute puppy which you all fell in love with.

A great deal or research and soul searching needs to be done to make the correct decision.

Can we afford a puppy?

The price you pay for your puppy is not the only cost to having a dog. You must consider lots of other aspects in the budget:

Vets fees – dogs need to be vaccinated yearly and they also need ongoing worming and fleaing treatments.
Insurance which will cover the unexpected vet costs of having a puppy / dog.
Trips to the grooming salon / kennels / doggy day care.
Weekly feeding costs – obviously dependant on the breed and size of your dog.
Puppy training / socialisation classes

Golden retrievers – Male and Female Puppies Available
Cavachons - Male and Female Puppies Available
Cocker Spaniels (Chocolate Roan) - Male and Female Puppies Available
Min Schnauzers (Salt and Pepper) - Male and Female Puppies Available

All the puppies have had their first major vaccination, kennel cough vaccine and will be re-wormed and flead before they leave for their new homes. Puppies are also micro-chipped.
